Low-density artificial grass is specifically designed for spaces where visual impact is more important than long-term resilience. Low-density artificial grass is specifically designed for spaces where visual impact is more important than long-term resilience. With fewer fibres packed into the backing, it has a lighter, more open feel and is typically chosen for balconies, decorative areas, or spaces that aren’t walked on regularly.
Because the fibres aren’t as tightly supported, low-density grass isn’t as good at recovering from repeated pressure compared to mid- and high-density grasses. That’s not necessarily a flaw; it’s simply a trade-off. In areas where you expect foot traffic to be minimal, it serves as an affordable, neat solution that still looks presentable when installed properly. Many choose low-density artificial grass for temporary installations, rental properties, or areas where budget is the primary consideration. As long as expectations match usage, it can be a perfectly sensible option.
Low-density artificial grass has fewer fibres stitched into the backing, meaning the pile looks more open and weighs less overall. It’s typically more affordable and best suited to areas that don’t experience regular foot traffic.
It works well on balconies, roof terraces, decorative garden zones, shop displays, and areas that are more for aesthetic than daily use. It’s not designed for children’s play areas or busy lawns, where it may not last as long under the stress of high foot traffic.
It can flatten easily compared to mid or high-density options, as it’s more prone to flattening if walked on frequently, due to the fewer fibres. Occasional brushing can help, but generally speaking, it’s not built for constant use.
Low-density styles are best known for looking tidy and presentable, but unlike mid-to-high density grasses, they won’t offer the fullness or depth that real turf has. In smaller or less-used spaces, this often isn’t noticeable.
We don’t recommend installing low-density artificial grass if you have pets, especially dogs that run or play regularly. This is because the fibres can be easily flattened, it has a less durable build, and simply won’t last you very long if animals are constantly playing on it. You’re much better off going for higher-density grass if repeated pressure is expected.
One of the benefits of low-density grass is that maintenance is often minimal if the area isn’t heavily used. That said, in high-use areas, it’ll likely need more frequent brushing to lift the fibres.
Generally, yes. Compared to mid- and high-density artificial grass, you’ll often pay less. The lower material weight and fibre count usually make it one of the most budget-friendly options. In return, you’ll also be getting a less durable and less realistic-looking turf.
Anyone prioritising cost or aesthetics over durability, particularly for light-use or decorative spaces.
